The mail utility is an intelligent mail processing system, which has a command syntax reminiscent of ed(1) with lines replaced by messages. BSD mail was never designed to work with IMAP, but as more systems start using IMAP type remote mailboxes, current users of BSD mail may need to find another MUA which supports IMAP. This distribution of BSD mail is based on the version in FreeBSD, and includes support for remote IMAP folders.

Note that this distribution currently does not (yet) contain mailx extensions.

Also, note that while effort has been made to test this version of mailx, this software is relatively new. You may find that this version of mailx will not talk to certain mail servers, or you may experience other types of unexpected behavior. It is strongly recommended that you backup both your IMAP inbox and your BSD mail mbox before you try this program.

The IMAP-enabled version of BSD mail (which we will dub mailxp - mailx plus) is available here (ver 9.1d 2009-01-01)
